District-Managed Device Changes For All Jeffco Students

Dear JVA Families,

In the past, students have had access to personal Google accounts on their district-managed Chromebooks. Due to recent changes made by Google, Jeffco is no longer able to continue allowing students to have access to their personal accounts.  Google’s changes would eliminate Jeffco’s ability to provide consistent web filtering on devices signed in with a personal account. The changes also eliminate the ability for Jeffco to manage extensions on devices signed in with a personal account.  Both of these changes have the potential to allow access to extremely inappropriate content and could impact our students’ privacy.

We understand that students may need to access their personal Google files. To do this, students may share their personal Google files with their Jeffco ( account. Likewise, they may share files from their Jeffco Google account ( to their personal Google accounts. Students in grades 9-12 have the option to package all of their Google content via Google Takeout which has the ability to transfer emails, files, docs, photos etc. to a personal account.

If your student is not using a district-managed device, this change does not affect personal accounts.

Please reach out to our Technologist, Ryan Self, if you have further questions. He can be reached at or at 720.808.0956.
