LEAP Workshops for Credit

Adulting - please waitLEAP workshops are offered to all high school students every Tuesday from 12:00-1:30 pm at JVA in partnership with Junior Achievement!

Attend the LEAP workshop series being offered in conjunction with Junior Achievement on Tuesday afternoons on campus at JVA! Each workshop will last 1.5-2 hours and cover a skill or topic applicable to your life as an adult. After each workshop, you will also have the opportunity to produce a demonstration of your learning to earn additional hours. Every 20 hours earned through a combination of workshop attendance and demonstrations will be recorded as .25 elective credit on your transcript.

2nd Semester LEAP Schedule:

Personal Finance: January - March 5

In this session, students will investigate the importance of budgeting and how to plan for staying within a budget. Students will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of making and keeping a budget or spending plan.
  • Consider the wide range of expenditures that might make up a monthly budget.

Personal Success: March 12 - April 9
This program prepares the students for the job market by teaching the personal success skills that will help them land and keep a job. The program covers the following key topics: the top 10 characteristics and skills employers look for in new hires; how to develop a personal brand that will lead to being hired; steps on the hiring process; best practices for completing a job application, and the job interview-one-on-one mock interviews with volunteers.

Career Success: April 16 – May 14
Equips students with the knowledge required to get and keep a job in high-growth industries. Students will explore the crucial workplace skills around critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and overall how to work in an environment that employers need diverse and eager learners.
